Topless Coffee Shop With Dancing Waitresses

The Grand View topless coffee shop on Route 3 will re-open with topless dancing waitress

VASSALBORO, Maine — The Grand View topless coffee shop on Route 3 will be back on the Planning Board agenda, Tuesday.

According to the advance agenda, owner Donald Crabtree will apply to build a new building to replace the one that burned, and might ask for “other operating changes.”

At the board’s June 2 meeting, Crabtree asked about several changes, including extending the closing time from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and offering recorded music to which waitresses would dance.

Planning Board members made a preliminary determination that none of the proposed changes except perhaps adding entertainment would require a new permit application.

The coffee shop burned later the same night. The state Fire Marshal’s office determined the cause was arson.

At the June 8 town meeting, residents approved a new ordinance to govern adult-oriented businesses such as Crabtree’s. The ordinance includes requirements for locating such businesses — minimum distances are required from other buildings, including residences — and limitations on operations.
